GHPL Match Day 9: WAFA end winless run; Kotoko deepen All Stars’ woes

Sogakope-based WAFA ended a run of five matches without a win after they beat struggling Ebusua Dwarfs 2-3 away from home in the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

In their first match after the departure of head coach Klavs Rasmussen, Richard Danso, Charles Boateng and Justice Amate scored to give the academy boys a commanding 3-0 lead before Dwarfs threatened a comeback with goals from Solomon Gyasi and Osman Mohammed but it was too little too late as Dwarfs were condemned to their 4th defeat of the season.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko moved up to 4th on the table following a 2-0 victory against Wa All Stars at the Wa Stadium. Captain Amos Frimpong put the Porcupines ahead before Frederick Boateng sealed the win with his 3rd goal in four games for Kotoko. All Stars have now suffered a 4th straight defeat and are languishing at the bottom of the table with just 5 points from their first 9 games.

Meanwhile, Accra Hearts of Oak had to battle from a goal down to rescue a point at the Baba Yara Stadium against Bechem United. Hafiz Konkoni capitalized on a mistake by Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Theophilus Jackson to put Bechem ahead inside 5 minutes. But first half substitute Patrick Razak scored in stoppage time to share the spoils. The Phobians are now winless in their last 3 games and slip to 9th on the table.

Alex Asamoah’s first half strike at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman, ended Medeama‘s run of four matches without a defeat and handed Techiman Eleven Wonders their 3rd victory of the campaign.

Karela United were held 0-0 at home by Elmina Sharks, the first time Karela have failed to win in their last 4 games.

On Saturday, Ashantigold extended their lead at the top of the table to 17 points, with Roland Amouzou’s first half strike the difference in the 1-0 win over Inter Allies at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

Berekum Chelsea host Liberty Professionals on Sunday night while Aduana Stars visit Dreams FC on Monday.
