Referee Lathbridge should appeal against lifetime ban- George Afriyie

Ex-Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has urged former Ghana Premier League referee Reginald Lathbride to appeal against the lifetime ban imposed on him by the GFA.

Referee Lathbridge, was earlier this year banned for life, after his mistake of wrongfully recording a booking, resulted in Great Olympics’ court case with the GFA, a move that delayed the start of the league for weeks.

Lathbridge was charged with failing to submit a complete and accurate Match Report to the GFA in the Matchday 7 of the 2016/2017 Ghana Premier League match played between Bechem United FC and was given a lifetime ban by the GFA Disciplinary Committee, preventing him from taking part in any football related activities.

However, George Afriyie in an interview with Accra based Asempa FM, admonished Lathbridge to appeal the decision as the punishment meted out, in his opinion, was harsh.

“Lathbridge committed an honest mistake. It was a mistake anybody could easily commit.

“It would have been different if he went back to correct his mistake to benefit one party, but he didn’t.

“He simply realized that he had made an error and went back to correct it.

“The punishment was too harsh and uncalled for. If I were him I’d appeal the decision, he said”
