My age is affecting my performance – Jordan Opoku

Asante Kotoko midfielder Jordan Opoku has admitted that his age is affecting his output for the Porcupine Warriors.

Opoku, 36,  rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on a season long deal for his third spell with the club after previous spells from 2006 to  2011, and 2013 to 2015.

He has played 8 matches this season but has seen his influence in games reduce drastically.

Opoku was overrun in midfield on Wednesday when Karela run the Kotoko midfield rugged en route to a thumping 3-1 win over the 23 time champions.

And Opoku, who has also played for Feyenoord Academy (now WAFA) and Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League, told reporters after the defeat to Karela that age might be catching up with him.

“Right now things are not working well for us. But it’s a matter of time. We need to keep working together,” he said.

“The team spirit is a little down. When you compare it to the previous times I was with Kotoko, the team spirit was better then.

“Individually too, the performances are not good enough. Personally, my age is affecting my performance as well, ” Opoku said.

Kotoko are 5 points behind league leaders Ashantigold and have already lost 5 times in the opening 11 games of the season.
