Chelsea 1-1 Huddersfield: David Wagner’s men survive Stamford Bridge onslaught to secure EPL status

Huddersfield Town have secured their Premier League status after a heroic 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

After a turgid first half performance, the Terriers struck in the second half when Laurent Depoitre showed incredible bravery to win the ball from an onrushing Willy Cabellero.

The big striker was left with the simplest of tasks to just tap the ball into the empty net to send the away fans behind the goal into delirium.

Chelsea found a response from prolific Marcos Alonso – although how much he knew about it is unclear as the ball rebounded painfully off his head and into the net.

Despite constant pressure and many near misses, the Terriers were able to hold on to secure an unlikely point and ensure they will be playing in the top flight next season.

STAR MAN – Jonathon Hogg

It was far from pretty, but the central midfielder put in a absolutely incredible performance for the Terriers on the night. His positioning was superb all night, cutting out dangerous Chelsea attacks when they came into the box.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Jonas Lossl will probably never have to buy a beer again in Huddersfield after his heroic display tonight, but one save summed it all up. With the Blues battering down the door, Lossl stood firm and produced on of the saves of the season to deny Andreas Christensen. The header was headed for the far corner, but Lossl got enough onto the ball and push it onto the post.
