Black Stars battle back to draw 2-2 with Iceland

Star man Thomas Partey got the equalizer as Ghana’s Black Stars fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Iceland in an international friendly on Thursday night.

Ghana were down after just 6 minutes when Kari Arnason headed in from a corner. Iceland continued to pile pressure on the Black Stars defense and soon doubled their league with a well worked goal which was finished off by FC Augsburg forward Alfred Finnbogason.

Iceland could have gone 3-0 after the restart but for a superb close range save from Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

The Black Stars slowly began to grow into the game and were soon rewarded when Kasim Nuhu blasted the ball into the roof of the net from a corner.

Ati-Zigi was called upon again late in the game, and was on hand to save a brilliant free kick from Burnley’s Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson.

Captain Thomas Partey completed the impressive comeback for Ghana on 87 minutes, with a close range finish after good work from Frank Acheampong to set him up.

The game served as an opportunity for Head Coach Kwesi Appiah to test his squad ahead of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers, while Iceland will be taking part in the FIFA World Cup in the coming days.
