Bob Arum: “Dogboe is taking after Azumah Nelson”

Renowned Boxing Promoter, Bob Arum, says WBO Super Bantamweight Champion, Isaac Dogboe, is following in the footsteps of the legendary Azumah Nelson, ahead of Dogboe’s first title defense this weekend.

The 25 year old faces Japanese boxer Hidenori Otake on Sunday morning in his first title defense since winning the Super Bantamweight title back in April.

Top Rank is promoting the fight and their CEO Bob Arum says he sees similarities between Dogboe and Azumah Nelson.

“I was impressed with his performance because, obviously, when you get knocked down in the first round and you get back up and you stop an opponent, that is very impressive.

But even more, I was impressed with him as a person. He has charisma and he has everything you want in a prize fighter and he is a real gentleman.

He is a credit to his country and I am not just saying that. I had the honour of promoting fighters from his country like the great Azumah Nelson.

He was called the ‘The Professor’ for a reason. He was really a skilled fighter and a great gentleman and you, Isaac, are following in the footsteps of the great Azumah Nelson.”

Arum’s Top Rank Promotions has signed Dogboe to a three-fight contract with the one against Otake being the first. The contract was signed after Dogboe captured the title in April this year.
