There seems to be a good strategy working out really well for the Ashanti Regional team when it comes to Youth Athletic Competitions in Ghana.

For three consecutive years, Ashanti Region has emerged winners of the Republic Bank – GES National Youth Athletics Festival in Ghana.

This year’s Festival was held at Koforidua from 17th – 18th August 2018 and was preceded by a presentation of athletics vests, medals, trophies and cash on the 16th of August.

This year’s event was the final of the 3-year sponsorship deal between Republic Bank (then HFC Bank) and the Ghana Education Service in 2016.

The two-day athletics festival was characterized by a number of great performances from the enthusiastic group of young athletes from all regions in Ghana.

However, the white vest of Ashanti Region dominated the frontlines of almost all disciplines. This came as no surprise to the officials and followers of youth athletics since the Ashanti Region were known for their prowess in Athletics.

At the end, they were awarded with almost all the Gold Medals and emerged as the overall winners of the 2018 National Youth Athletics Festival.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, the General Manager in Charge of Finance and Strategy, Mr. Benjamin Dzoboku charged the athletes to write their names in the record books by setting new records and become national assets in regard to Athletics in Ghana.

In 2016, Republic Bank then HFC Bank signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ghana Education Service to sponsor Youth Athletics in Ghana.

The Bank has so far spent over GH350,000 in sponsorships to the National Youth Athletics Festival. The first national festival was held in Sunyani and the second in Cape Coast.

The Cape Coast edition had the highest number of new records set in the 32nd year of the youth athletics festival.

The sponsorship from Republic Bank has significantly improved the organization of the National Youth Athletics over the last three editions. According to Mr. Dzoboku, Republic Bank will continue to play a significant role in youth development in Ghana.

Republic Bank believes that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) must result in the long term benefits for communities. It is therefore the aim of the Bank to nurture athletes that are capable of competing and winning Gold medals for Ghana in future.
