AFCON 2019 Qualifiers: Rashid Sumaila handed late Black Stars call up

Red Star Belgrade defender, Rashid Sumaila, has been handed a late call up to the senior national team, the Black Stars, for their upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.

Sumaila’s invitation was necessitated by injuries to two members of the team, Hoffenheim’s Kasim Nuhu and FC Metz’s John Boye, who have both withdrawn from the squad through injury.

Nuhu sustained an ankle injury towards the end of the first half in Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga game against Freiburg on Saturday while John Boye failed to recover from an injury he suffered on Tuesday night in a French cup game against RC Lens, lasting just 15 minutes.

Sumaila will join the Ghana camp on Monday withe game against the Harambee Stars scheduled for September 8 in Nairobi in their second qualifying game for Cameroon 2019. Ghana won their first group game against Ethiopia 5-0 last year.
