“New GFA must be firm in terms of corruption”- Augustine Arhinful

Former Black Stars forward, Augustine Arhinful, says future Ghana Football Association administrations should deal with corruption in the game far more decisively than previous administrations.

Arhinful’s comments come at a time when the FIFA/CAF Normalisation Committee is to meet the Government of Ghana over the membership of the committee.

The committee is tasked with the running the Ghana FA on a daily basis while reviewing the FA statutes in accordance with FA rules and also, draw a roadmap for the elections of a new Ghana FA Executive Committee.

In an interview with Ghanaweb, Arhinful said that the new administration should do a better job at doing away with corrupt officials unlike the previous administration that failed to take bold measures to deal with improper conduct.

“I want to see a situation where processes are put into place and people will not be allowed to do the things they were supposedly doing behind the scenes.

I was listening to a radio programme the other day and one person, who was a management member of one of the national teams, said ‘who does not know that we pay bribes?'”

Arhinful continued: “He then said that the running of football should be given to them do. You say you pay bribes and yet, you want us to put football in your hands. Such people should taken out of the system.

We have to make sure we clean the system. But then, the FA brought this entire situation (the Anas tape and its aftermath) on itself. The FA and its executives were not tough enough. They knew there was something going wrong even before the video came out but they could not put their feet down.

If they had forced the President (Kwesi Nyantakyi) to resign at that time, they would have been intact.”

The FIFA/CAF Normalisation Committee will replace the current Ghana FA Executive Committee and it has until the end of March, 2019 to complete all of its tasks.
