NC Special: Hearts extend lead at the top after Karela victory

Right full back, Christopher Bonney was the hero for Accra Hearts of Oak, as his spot kick 15 minutes before time secured all three points for the Phobians, in their week 12 clash of the NC Special Competition against Karela FC at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The game was played in some harsh weather conditions, as it rained heavily throughout the first half.

The wet and slippery pitch made it difficult for both sides to maintain the flow of the game, and it resulted in few chances created in the first half.

Hearts captain, Fatawu Mohammed, had  a good chance a few minutes before the break after a fine team move, but his shot went well wide.

The game kicked up a gear in the second half with Karela going close on a couple of occasions but a combination of fine goalkeeping from Hearts’ Richmond Ayi and poor finishing let them down.

Winger Osei Baffuor also came close midway through the second half but he scuffed his shot after a brilliant run.

The breakthrough finally came for Hearts as after the referee pointed to the spot as Daniel Kodie was adjudged to have been fouled in the area after his surging run.

Bonney stepped up and made no mistake to put Hearts in the lead in the 75th minute.

Karela pushed for the equalizer but the Hearts of Oak defense remained resolute.

The win extends Hearts lead at the top Zone B to four points.
