Ghana’s Black Queens lost 4-2 on penalties to rivals, Nigeria, in yesterday’s semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B Women’s Championships taking place in Cote d’Ivoire.

Despite the intensity that characterised the match, both teams failed to find the net and it was the Queens who were guiltier of missing good chances to score.

In the shootout, both Ghana and Nigeria scored their first two kicks but the Black Queens failed to convert the next two while the Nigerians scored theirs.

The defeat means that Ghana will not defend the title they won last year but can win bronze with a victory over Mali on Saturday in the 3rd/4th place playoff.

Mali lost 2-1 to Cote d’Ivoire in the other semi-final setting up Nigeria vs Cote d’Ivoire tie in the final.
