I almost signed for a club in the Premier League – Antoine Griezmann

Having finally completed his dream move to Spanish giants, Barcelona, forward Antoine Griezmann has revealed that he almost signed for a club in the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Griezmann said that he almost made the move to England, although he did not name the team.

Greizmann was the subject of interest from some top Premier League clubs, including Manchester United prior to his big-money move to Barcelona.

However, the player ultimately remained with Atletico, helping the club to a second-place finish last season.

“It almost happened once but I was very happy where I was. I’ve had a lot of fun in La Liga.”

Griezmann’s £108million move from Atletico has generated a lot of controversy as his former club are demanding an extra €80m from Barcelona.

Atletico claimed that Griezmann had already committed himself to Barcelona when his release clause was pegged at €200m.

Griezmann also expressed his admiration for France International teammate, Alexandre Lacazette, saying that he would like to play with the striker at club level as well.

“As a player, I would like to play with Alexandre Lacazette. He’s a friend of mine off the field and we’ve played together for the national team. He’s got a lot of talent.”

Griezmann added that Liverpool was his favourite Premier League side, expressing his hope that the European Champions will conquer England again.

“In terms of teams, I admire Liverpool because of the fans. Hopefully one day, they will win the league again.”
