Ex-Black Stars goalie Richard ‘Olele’ Kingson arrested for traffic offence [VIDEO]

It has not been a great couple of weeks for former Black Stars shot-stopper and current goalkeepers’ trainer Richard Kingson.

Having seen the Black Stars crash out of the 2019 African Cup of Nations on penalties a fortnight ago, Olele, as he’s affectionately known, found himself in a bit of bother this morning at the East Legon tunnel.

Kingson was picked up by the police for disregarding the road markings.

He was arrested, along with 20 other errant drivers, at the tunnel as part of Citi TV’s War Against Indiscipline campaign.

One would have expected that since the Police has already held operations in this area, residents would be more law-abiding.

The impounded vehicles have been sent to the East Legon police station while 18 of the errant drivers have been processed for the Abeka Motor Court for their various offences.

ASP Simon Tenku of the Police Public Affairs Directorate spoke to Citi News after today’s operations and said most of the drivers implicated today had ignored the road markings.

“Today we didn’t get a lot of people driving on the shoulder [of the road]. Most of the drivers were just neglecting the road markings and using the wrong directions. I am also glad that today we didn’t get a lot of uniformed persons, compared to the last time we were here, which is an improvement. We are happy about that and so far we have arrested 21 drivers and processed 18 for court today,” he said.

Richard Kingson earned 90 caps for the Black Stars, representing the country at African Cup of Nations and World Cup tournaments.

He also played for a host of clubs during his career including Wigan, Birmingham in the English Premier League and Turkish side Galatasaray.

He was appointed goalkeepers’ coach of the Black Stars in 2017, replacing Nasam Yakubu and was with the side during the recent ill-fated AFCON campaign.
