African Games 2019 Day 5: Exits hit Ghana in several disciplines

The search for medals for Team Ghana in the 2019 African Games in Morocco has not been successful after another day of exits hitting the team in various disciplines.

BOXING

In the women’s middleweight 75kg boxing, Ornella Sathoud lost 5-0 to Mardi Khadija of Morocco. There was, however, some success for Abigail Quartey as she drew a bye in the women’s feather weight 57kg. She will come up against Stephane Mambou of Cameroon in the quarter finals.

Sulemanu Tetteh also made it to the next round of the men’s fly weight 52kg after he defeated Aly Abelrahman of Egypt 3-2. He will face Flisi Mohammed of Algeria in the quarter finals.

KARATE

Dickson Acolatse drew a bye in the men’s 60kg elimination but he lost to Abdesslam Ameknassi of Morocco 6-0 in the quarter final kumite.

Felix Donkor lost 5-0 to Slimani Thamer of Tunisia in the men’s 84kg quarter finals. Patrick Amakye also lost to Tsaone Koolopile of Botswana 8-0 in the men’s 67kg elimination.

SWIMMING

Abeiku Jackson came 3rd in the Men’s 50m Freestyle Preliminaries Heat 4 in a time of 23.57 seconds but it was not enough to get him to progress.

In the men’s Men’s 100m Backstroke Preliminaries heat 2, Jude Jason Arthur was second in a time of 57.61 seconds to qualify to the final. Fellow Ghanaian swimmer, David Niklas Yeboah was 4th in a time of 1:02.59 seconds.

TENNIS

Johnson Acquah defeated Said El Hafedh Mohammed of Libya in straight sets in the men’s prelims but Kuuku Abban lost to Wifried Coulibaly of Cote d’Ivoire in straight sets.

In the women’s singles, there was no joy for Ghana as Marian Ibrahim lost to Salma Ziouti of Morocco and Elizabath Bagerbaseh fell to Sandra Samir of Egypt. Both ladies lost in straight sets.
