Doha 2019: Ghana women’s relay team to line up against Great Britain, Jamaica

The Ghana women’s relay team has been handed a tough field in their 4x100m semi final heat on Friday evening.

The quartet of Flings Owusu-Agyapong, Gemma Acheampong, Persis William Mensah and Hor Halutie will have to contend with Great Britain, Jamaica and Germany in an extremely difficult field.

Brazil, Nigeria, Italy and China  complete the line up.

Ghana must finish in the first 4 to stand any chance of progressing to Saturday’s final.

The first 3 in each heat automatically advance to the final with the next 2 fastest runners joining them for Saturday’s showdown.

Great Britain, silver medalists from 2 years ago in London, have 100m individual silver medalist and 200m individual gold medalist, Dina Asher-Smith in their line up.

Jamaica bronze medalists from 2017 but have been reinvigorated with their 100m individual gold medalist Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce and double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, and are one of the favorites for the title.

Ghana’s Season’s Best time of 44.12sec puts them 8th in the rankings in their heat and will need to perform much better than that to progress.

The women’s 4x100m relays start at 17:40GMT on Friday.
