Black Meteors head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, says that apart from making to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Football tournament, he wants to represent the continent as African champions by winning the U-23 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

Ghana will face Cameroon, Mali and Egypt in Group A of the tournament which takes place between November 8 and 22.

The Black Meteors will have to emerge as one of the best three teams at the tournament to go to the Olympic Games and Tanko believes his team can even win the competition.

“The group we are in is a tough and attractive one and it is a group of death. I am sure the teams in the other group will say same of theirs. I think the only thing we have to do is to prepare well. I believe in the players that we have and I think that we can overcome the group,” he said to Kwese Free Sports in an interview.

“We have a good chance of winning the tournament. We are one of the favourites. We will go for the trophy but if we do not get that, we will go for silver or bronze to help us to the Olympic Games. This is our mentality heading into the tournament and I am sure will get any one of three medals up for grabs.”

Ghana’s first match in the U-23 AFCON tournament will be played on November 8 at the Cairo International Stadium.
