See superb goal by Thomas Partey that almost helped Atletico Madrid beat Valencia [VIDEO]

Midfielder Thomas Partey was on target as Atletico Madrid were held to a 2-2 draw at Valencia on Friday night.

Partey was hugely impressive and found the net with a thumping finish but Atletico were left to rue yet another couple of points dropped as they bid to secure a Champions League spot.

Marcos Llorente had put Atleti ahead in the 15th minute with a close-range finish but Valencia found an equaliser with five minutes to go in the half, as Gabriel Paulista headed home.

Partey then took charge, bossing the midfield as Atletico exerted some pressure on the hosts.

He then lit up the Mestalla, picking the ball up in midfield in the 43rd minute, driving forward past a couple of challenges before thumping home a 20-yard effort.

It flew past the goalkeeper, who stretched out his hand despairingly to try and save it.

The lead was cancelled out by Geoffrey Kondogbia’s second-half strike.

The goal was Partey’s second in La Liga and third overall this season, having scored in the Champions League as well.
