5 teams to play home matches at Accra Sports Stadium after Kotoko move fixtures to the capital

A total of five teams in the Ghana Premier League now call the Accra Sports Stadium ‘home’ after Kumasi Asante Kotoko picked the ground as their home ground for the rest of the current season.

The Kumasi-based club have had to switch home venues due to ongoing renovation works at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The switch to the Accra Sports Stadium was announced by Kotoko on social media earlier on Friday.

However, it presents a quite unique situation to the Premier League schedule with five clubs now playing their home games at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Kotoko recently played at the Accra Sports Stadium when they beat Hearts of Oak 2-1

Already this season, Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, Inter Allies and Legon Cities have played their home games at the stadium with the schedules manipulated to ensure that none of the teams play at home at the same time.

A fifth club, particularly one that was not accounted for before the start of the campaign, might see the league fixture table manipulated even further.

In the next gameweek, Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko and Inter Allies are all scheduled to play at home.
