C.K Akonnor opens door to more GHPL players to join Black Stars

Black Stars head Coach C.K Akonnor has failed to rule out the possibility of having an equal number of foreign and local based players in the national team at some point in time.

The newly appointed national male soccer team head coach recently named 4 Ghana Premier League Players in his Afcon 2021 qualifiers squad to take on Sudan.

Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko were represented by Richard Attah and Habib Mohammed, while Aduana Stars and Ashanti Gold were also represented by Yahaya Mohammed and Kwadwo Amoako respectively.

The move by the head coach has been commended by many, who believe that it will will uplift the game of players in the local league.

The gaffer insisted that with the possibility of foreign born Ghanaians coming into the team, those invited locally will have to prove their worth to open doors for more to come in.

“Our local players must up their game.

“This will help us to have that good blend between local and the foreign players.

“We want to try as much as possible to bridge the gap between the professionals and the local players.

The Black Stars will take on Sudan on March 27th in Cape – Coast and then engage in the return leg in Sudan three days later.
