Give local players a chance – Otto Pfister charges Black Stars technical team

Former Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Pfister, has charged the current technical setup of the team to put their faith in locally based players.

The quota for locally based players in the Black Stars has dwindled in recent years, with a large chunk of the Black Stars squad based abroad.

Otto Pfister believes the trend of selecting foreign based players because of the perceived superior quality of the foreign leagues is a mistake.

“Some foreign coaches make mistakes in Africa, they call players from Europe who are not regular players,” he said in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports.

“But it is better to call up local players who play regularly and are in form than a player who is in Europe and has never played for his club,” he added.

Otto Pfister’s Black Stars team that finished as runners up in the 1992 AFCON included 10 locally based players.
