Ashanti Gold CEO: mending relationship with supporters a top priority

Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Gold Football Club Emmanuel Frimpong says they are charting a new path regarding the relationship between fans and the team’s ownership.

The support the club enjoys from its fans has waned over the last couple of years and this has been reflected in the decreasing numbers recorded at the Len Clay Stadium.

Supporters of the club have accused majority shareholder Dr Kweku Frimpong of disrespecting and diminishing their influence within the club.

He has also been accused of using derogatory words towards  a section of the clubs supporters in the past, a situation that has led to a frosty relationship.

New CEO Emmanuel Frimpong who is son of the majority shareholder admits that the club cannot exist without its fans.

He says efforts to restore the relationship is yielding positive results.

“You cant have a team without supporters, hence since I took over I have had a good relationship with them.

“The problem that was ongoing has been dealt with.

“Now there is no problem between the supporters and Dr Kweku Frimpong.

“The management team, myself and the Sporting director are working in close contact with the supporters because we understand that we cant do this without them,” he told Citi Sports.

Ashanti Gold will be representing Ghana at the Caf Confederations Cup following the cancellation of the football season.
