GFA remain coy over Eddie Nketiah situation

The Ghana Football Association have revealed to Citi Sports that there has been no contact made with the family of Arsenal prospect Eddie Nketiah.

Social media went into a frenzy when the GFA’s official twitter handle congratulated the youngster for winning the FA Cup with Arsenal.

Arsenal came from behind to defeat Chelsea 2 – 1 to win their 14th FA Cup at Wembley.

The move by the FA was interpreted as an attempt to lure the British born Nketiah who has Ghanaian parents to play for Ghana.

Clarifying the matter, Communications Director for the GFA Henry Asante Twum says the tweet was merely meant to bring awareness from which a future relationship can be built.

“It is not far-fetched to strategically congratulate him to let him know that eyes are watching.

“Contacting his family has not come up yet.

“When the process begins the media will be updated.

“That move cannot be made without the input of technical handlers.

“Where we sit nothing of the sort has come to our table.” he disclosed to Citi Sports.

The 21 year old has already represented England at the U – 21 level but is yet to feature for the senior national side making him eligible to switch and represent Ghana if he so wishes.
