Frimpong Manso: Age cheating the reason Ghana dominated youth football

Former Black Stars and Asante Kotoko legend Frimpong Manso has revealed that Ghana’s dominance at the youth level in the past was due to age cheating.

Ghana’s U – 17 team led by Otto Pfister won the U -17 World Cup in 1991 and repeated the feat in 1995.

However, Ghana has struggled to replicate that form in recent years since the introduction of the Magnetic Resonance Imagery scan (MRI) to detect overage players.

He was speaking on the 25th anniversary of Ghana’s U – 17 World Cup triumph in 1995 in Ecuador.

“In the olden days, we used over-aged players for the U17 competitions and we are now suffering in the long run. Back then there was no MRI to check the real age of players so we used over-aged players,”

“We don’t get time for the youth side and our obsession of always wanting to win is a problem.
