Why Romelu Lukaku absented himself during Europa League medal presentation

Inter Milan’s striker, Romelu Lukaku refused to take his runners-up medal by missing the whole presentation after Inter Milan lost 3-2 to Sevilla in the Europa League.

It was a night to forget for the Belgian as his own goal secured the trophy for the Spanish club.

Following the defeat, the players of the Italian club looked downcast as they claimed their consolation medal at the RheinEnergieStadion.

However, among the players, the Belgian striker was nowhere to be found in footage uploaded by beIN Sports.

The loss is a regretful end to a season where he has been incredible for Inter Milan. He scored 34 goals for ‘I Nerazzurri’.

Lukaku, 27, however, started the night on a high note dispatching a penalty to hand Antonio Conte’s men the lead.

Luuk De Jong had other plans as he scored two goals before Diego Godin drawing level before half time.

Sevilla dominated in the second half and Diego Carlos’ acrobatics deflected in off Lukaku to seal the game.
