Asante Kotoko, Ashgold confirm participation in Champions League, Confederations Cup

Asante Kotoko and Ashgold have confirmed their interest in representing Ghana in the two main African club competitions – the CAF Champions and the Confederations Cup.

The confirmation comes on the back of letters from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) letter to the clubs on Wednesday, September 02, 2020, to confirm their engagement in the competitions.

Kotoko’s confirmation was contained in a letter dated September 07, 2020, signed by CEO Yaw Amponsah while Ashgold registered their interest earlier on September 5, 2020, to the GFA.

The Porcupine Warriors represented Ghana in the same competition in the 2019/2020 season and have been given the chance to compete again, following the cancellation of the domestic league season due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Whereas, the miners who represented Ghana in the CAF Confederations in the 2019/2020 season have been given the chance to play again in the competition, following the truncation of the 2019/2020 domestic football season.

AshantiGold SC played in the Confederations Cup last year as a result of their triumph in the NC Tier Two competition.

The club is expected to go through the mandatory Club licensing process as set out in the GFA and CAF Club licensing regulations.

Engagement and registration for the 2020/2021 CAF interclub competition were opened on September 01, 2020, and will be closed on October 20, 2020.
