GHPL: Five teams choose Accra Stadium as home grounds as clubs present venues for 2020/2021 season

The Accra Sports Stadium will play home to five (5) Premier League teams in the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season after the Club Licensing Board received proposed venues for the upcoming season.

Already home to Accra Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics, Inter Allies and Legon Cities, Kumasi Asante Kotoko have also applied to use the facility for the 2020/2021 football season.

Kotoko’s original home grounds, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, has been closed for renovation since March 2019.

They played two home matches at the Accra Sports Stadium before the 2019/2020 season was truncated because of the outbreak of COVID-19.

If approved, the Accra Sports Stadium is expected to host 85 games during the course of the season (7 months).

Elsewhere, Kumasi King Faisal, who also hitherto played their home matches at the Kumasi Sports Stadium, have chosen the Nyinahini Youth Resource Center as their home grounds.

The facility is part of the ten (10) Youth Resource Centers being constructed in the 10 regions of Ghana by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Doubts remain however, on whether the facility will be ready in time for the start of the league on November 6.

The Club Licensing Board is expected to undertake inspection checks on all the submitted venues from the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs from Tuesday, October 06, to Friday, October 23, 2020, to ensure that all necessary satisfactory requirements are met before approval is given for the use of the facility.
