AlVARo Morata had 3 goals disallowed for offside against Barca and social media loved it

Cristiano Ronaldo has Lionel Messi, Jose Mourinho has Arsene Wenger and Alvaro Morata has…the offside flag.

The narrative in the weeks leading up to last night’s Champions League encounter between Juventus and Barcelona had been a possible reunion for Ronaldo and Messi

However, with Ronaldo out of the Juve squad due to a positive coronavirus test, and Barcelona comfortably coming out on top, the narrative over the course of the match changed to who would win; Morata or the flag.

Turns out there was only one clear victor as Morata trudged off the pitch in disappointment after seeing three of his goals disallowed; all three for offside.

Following Barcelona’s early opener, Morata ran through on goal and found the net from a rebound but a VAR checked showed that he was initially offside.

In the 30th minute, Juan Cuadrado’s cross found Morata in the box, who again scored, but yet again, the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

Per the rule of threes, Morata was bound to find the net again, and he didn’t disappoint – neither did the offside flag.

He tapped home in the 55th minute but the goal was ruled out again after a VAR check.

Stats accumulator Opta tweeted that since the start of last season, no player has been caught offside on more occasions in the Champions League than Álvaro Morata, with 13 to his name.

Barcelona scored a late second to steal all three points in a match that will be remembered more for Morata’s unfortunate night in front of goal.

And social media wasn’t in a hurry to help him forget.
