The Ghana Premier League has long have a history of foreign players lighting up the league. From the days of Ashantigold’s Togolese goalkeeper Nibombe Wake to Asante Kotoko’s Ahmed Toure, foreign players have have a long running love affair with the Ghana Premier League.

In the truncated 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season, it was another foreign player, Inter Allies’ Victorien Adebayor who graced the campaign with his explosive performances.

This season however, Adebayor will not be playing in the league, having joined Danish 1st Division side Koge in September this year.

And while there were still quite a number of foreign players, mostly from other African countries, left in the league, Ghanaian clubs have still gone out and splashed the cash to bring in 10 new foreign players ahead of the the 2020/2021 campaign.

The 10 players are drawn from 6 clubs and spread across 7 different nationalities.

Accra Hearts of Oak and Bechem United lead the pack with 3 foreign players each.

Hearts of Oak brought in Abdul Mamane Lawali from Niger, Danjuma Kuti from Nigeria and Eric Dizan from Cote D’Ivoire.

Bechem United on the other hand signed a trio of players from Mali:  Alhassan Troare, Boubacar Sadiki Doumbia and Moussa Traore.
Asante Kotoko made the solitary foreign purchase by bringing in Fabio Dos Santos Gama from Brazil to add to their Guinean import Naby Keita who joined the club two seasons ago.
Ashanti Gold signed Mohamed Bailou from Burkina Faso; Karela United brought in Varney Boakai Sando from Liberia and Inter Allies added Ali Isah (Nigeria) to their foreign contingent.

There will be keen eyes watching the exploits of these players in the season ahead. If any one of them can match the exploits of Adebayor, we could have an amazing season in our hands.
