I will be world champion again – Richard Commey

Ghana’s Richard Commey has vowed to become a World champion again, as he gears towards his bout with Jackson Marinez on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the MGM Grand’s “Bubble” in Las Vegas.

Commey, hasn’t fought since December of 2019, when he was stopped in two rounds against Teofimo Lopez, losing his IBF lightweight title in the process.

The 33 year old believes he will be a champion once again, beginning with his first step back in the co-featured bout underneath the Joe Smith Jr. vs. Maxim Vlasov fight for the vacant WBO light heavyweight title.

“I went back home after the bout with Teofimo [Lopez], and I’ve been training since, especially after the breakout of Covid-19,” he said.

“Ever since my defeat, I’ve been working hard to comeback. This is a great fight to get back into the mix of things. The lightweight division is packed and exciting and it’s all about getting back.

“Once I win this fight, it’ll be about showing that I still have what it takes to be champion again,” he added.
