AFCON 2021: “I would have preferred Ghana got Nigeria or Cote d’Ivoire – Stephen Appiah

Former Black Stars Captain, Stephen Appiah believes Ghana’s Group in the upcoming 2021 AFCON tournament is a tricky one.

Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Morocco, Comoros and 2017 hosts Gabon.

According to Appiah, he would rather face opponents such as Cote D’Ivoire and Nigeria, teams that Ghana is already familiar with.

He however believes that with the right preparation, the Black Stars can bring an end to the country’s trophy drought in next year’s tournament in Cameroon.

“It’s a very tricky one, I always say that as a former player, I will prefer to play against Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria and the others because you know the players.

“But when you are playing against countries like Comoros and the rest, you don’t even know them, so they are likely to surprise you.

“So for me, there are no underdogs anymore, we just have to prepare well and go and perform.

The  2021 edition of the AFCON will take place in January next year.
