Man Utd returnee Cristiano Ronaldo was ‘terrified’ of this Chelsea defender

Forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has played in some of the toughest leagues in the world and against some of the best defenders.

Having earned his reputation as one of the world’s best in the Premier League, Ronaldo conquered La Liga and the Serie A before securing a return to England this summer with Manchester United.

Given the successes he has attained over the course of his career, it’s understandable for defenders to want to play their very best against him.

Ronaldo has had to endure a number of very tough matches but his encounters with one particular player stand out for him.

The forward named former Chelsea left-back, Ashley Cole as the most difficult opponent he’s faced.

Ronaldo and Cole faced off while the English defender was at Arsenal and when he moved to Chelsea in tense encounters.

Speaking to Coach Mag, Ronaldo said Ashley Cole did not ease the pressure on him any time they faced each other.

“Over the years I had some great battles with Ashley Cole, he does not give you a second to breathe,” he said.

“He was such a tenacious player when he was at his peak, quick, tough in the tackle. You knew it would never be an easy game.”

Manchester United announced last Friday that they had reached an agreement with Juventus which would see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner return to Old Trafford for around €15m (£12.87m) plus a further €8m (£6.86m) in add-ons.
