Ghana’s Black Stars surrendered their top spot in Group G after losing 1 – 0 to South Africa at the FNB stadium.

South Africa’s Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored the only goal of the contest as the Black Stars of Ghana tasted defeat in the second group game of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The 4-time AFCON champions enjoyed a lively start to the game and threatened to get on the scoresheet very early in the game but a resolute South African defense kept the Black Stars away.

Bafana Bafana when they found their rhythm dominated possession and threatened on multiple occasions.

Percy Tau thought he had broken the deadlock but he was flagged offside after heading the ball into the back of the net.

South Africa started the second half with intent and went close once again after a huge error by Richard Ofori almost saw Makgopa punish the Black Stars but his effort narrowly missed the target

However, South Africa will have their goal finally as Bongokuhle Hlongwane broke the deadlock in the dying minutes of the game to hand Ghana its first defeat of the 2022 World Cup qualifying series.

The Black Stars now sit 2nd in Group G with 3 points with South Africa now topping the group with 4 points.
