Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew, says he is happy with Al Sadd’s victory against Al Rayyan in the final of the 2021 Emir Cup that was played on October 22.

Al Sadd held off Al Rayyan 5-4 in the penalty shootout after the match ended in regulation time after Yacine Brahimi and Santi Cazorla exchanged goals for Al Rayyan and Al Sadd respectively.

The victory gave Al Sadd and Andre Ayew their first trophy of the season and the Ghana forward told beIN Sports that was very pleased at getting his hands on silverware very early into his time in the Middle East.

“I am very proud to have won my first trophy here and I hope there will be many more to come. The match atmosphere was unbelievable. It was a great game and the fans were here and the stadium was full. It was a tough game and it was our version of the Clasico.

It was a weird game with the penalties and all. We had to come from behind and I think we dominated the game and we should have won it in regulation time and not on penalties.

But it is part of football. We calmed our nerves and we won. Now, we need to prepare and try and win the league.”

Ayew also expressed his thoughts on the cup win on his official Twitter handle after the match.

With Emir Cup out of the way, Al Sadd return to action in the Qatari Stars League and they face Umm-Salal on October 26 ahead of matches against Al Ahli Doha and Al Duhail on October 31 and November 3 respectively.

So far, Ayew has scored 5 goals in 5 goals in all competitions with Al Sadd since he joined them after leaving Swansea City.
