2022WCQ: We have players who can play in Thomas Partey’s stead – Milovan Rajevac

Head coach of the Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac says he is confident other players can step up after losing star midfielder Thomas Partey to injury.

Ghana travelled to South Africa for the game against Ethiopia without Thomas Partey, Jonathan Mensah, who are both injured and Felix Ohene Afena-Gyan who has not joined the team due to personal reasons.

Partey, 28, scored in both games against Zimbabwe during the October international break for the Black Stars.

“Thomas Partey delivered some brilliant performances in our last games and he scored some goals too but this is football, you get injured sometimes. We have players who can step in and play because that is how football works. We have trust in the squad and we know whoever replaces him is there to help the team win and get to the next level,” he said.

Rajevac also stated that he is hopeful to have the Arsenal player back before Ghana’s all-important game against South Africa in Cape Coast.

“We are hoping to have Thomas Partey back before our final game but we are not sure yet,” he highlighted.

The Group G encounter will take place at the Orlando stadium on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 13:00Hrs GMT and will play Bafana Bafana of South Africa three days later.
