Pitso Mosimane wants to add Club World Cup and AFCON to impressive cabinet

Head coach of Al Ahly, Pitso Mosimane, says he would love to add the Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA Club World to his trophy cabinet.

Mosimane, 57, is one of Africa’s finest and most successful coaches with an array of trophies to his name.

After dominating the South African league with Mamelodi Sundowns, Mosimane moved to the Egyptian club, Al Ahly where he has bagged five trophies since taking the job.

His recent achievements at Al Ahly includes claiming bronze in the 2022 FIFA Club Cup, beating Al Hilal in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking to Ghanaian sports journalists, Owuraku Ampofo and Yaw Ofosu Larbi, Mosimane says he wants to go a step further and win gold at the Club World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

“To win the Cup of Nations, it is something that [the late] Stephen Keshi has won, Aliou Cisse has done, something the Algerian coach has won, and probably that is one of the things as Africans we would love to win. But also you cannot be ungrateful that no coach on the continent has won the trophies that I have won, Champions League, Super Cup and being bronze medallist in the Club World Cup two times. I should also be grateful to God for giving me the other side,” Mosimane said.

“I will really really like to change the colour of the medal in the [Club] World Cup for my continent and will also love to win the Cup of Nations for the team I would be coaching. Be it South Africa or whichever country it might be. That will be nice,” he added.
