2022 WCQ: NSA confident Baba Yara will be ready for Ghana vs Nigeria

Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi, has told Citi Sports the NSA will deliver on the 8 different maintenance works the Confederation of African Football requires to be carried out at the Baba Yara Stadium before Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

On Wednesday, CAF granted a one match conditional approval for the Baba Yara Stadium to host the game on March 25, 2022 after it declared the Cape Coast Stadium unfit.

But CAF said more work needed to be done on the stadium before the game, some of which include increasing the capacity of the dressing room lockers and fixing the technical bench.

Professor Twumasi says the NSA will finish the works in time for the game.

“You will realize the most important aspects have been approved which is why CAF gave the clearance (for the match)to be played”

“As to the checklist, many of them are routine and will be done before the match”

“We only had two days’ notice before the inspection and regardless he gave such a good report, all that remains is cosmetic”

The 8 items that require fixing at the Stadium are as follows:

  1. Installation of new international standard, modern and comfortable officials’ benches at pitch level;
  2. Adjustment of the floodlight intensity. A minimum of 1200 Lux should be provided all over the pitch, covering uniformly every area of the playing field;
  3. Increase seating and lockers in the teams’ dressing rooms to reach (25) persons;
  4. Installation of completely new modern equipment and materials in the referees dressing rooms and ensure that is equipped with all the necessary materials and CAF requirements;
  5. Set up the water system to provide both cold and hot water in the teams and officials dressing room;
  6. General refurbishment of the CAF office, installation of modern desks and seats, including the necessary electronic and working equipment;
  7. VOC must be available and equipped with all the necessary equipment and requirements;
  8. Complete refurbishment of the media tribune, press conference room and media centre, installing new and modern equipment.
