GFA bans referee for awarding ‘fake’ penalty to Samartex against Ebusua Dwarfs

A referee has been suspended for the rest of the season for awarding an erroneous penalty in the Division One League match between Samartex and Ebusua Dwarfs.

The GFA’s Match Review Panel reviewed footage of the incident and ruled that the Samartex attacker threw himself to the ground despite not being touched by the defender.

Referee Felix Agbodzo awarded a penalty, a decision the Panel ruled was erroneous.

Mr Agbozo insisted that the defender had kicked the leg of the attacker, which is why he awarded the penalty even when the video of the incident was sent to him.

The GFA announced that the official had been suspended for the rest of the season as a result.

The match in question, played on Matchday 19 at the Scot Park, ended in a draw.
