But Liverpool claimed the all-important three points

Alarm bells were ringing in the Liverpool camp but they were soon silenced as they hit back straight away through Joel Matip’s goal.

Both sides had great chances to retake the lead in the first half with Sadio Mane and Naby Keita going close for the visitors, while former Red Danny Ings spurned a glorious chance for the hosts.

Chances were fewer and far between after the break but there was one more goal in the contest with Mane’s glancing header proved to be the decisive moment.

As for the title race, it’s over to City, who take on Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday night.
