FC Samartex book historic qualification to Ghana Premier League

May 23, 2022
Reading Time: 1 min read

FC Samartex 1996 have secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the first time in the club’s history.

The Samreboi-based club have dominated Zone Two of the 2021/22 Division One League for most parts of the campaign.

And the Timbers finally confirmed their promotion with three games left after drawing 0-0 away to Swedru All Blacks to go 58 points on Sunday.

A 1-0 defeat for second-placed Ebusua Dwarfs at Nzema Kotoko – in one of the match-day 27 fixtures – ensured that Samartex open an unassailable 10-point lead and mathematically secured their place for the 2022/23 GPL.

The qualification to Ghana’s topflight is the first in Samartex’s history since their establishment in 1996.
