‘I lost focus after being dropped from Cameroon squad’ – Kotoko’s Etouga Mbella

Kumasi Asante Kotoko attacker, Franck Mbella Etouga has explained how his omission from the Cameroonian national team affected him at club level.

The youngster was named in Rigobert Song’s provisional squad for Cameroon’s 2023 AFCON Qualifiers earlier in June but was later dropped.

Mbella said his disappointment after not making the final list caused him to lose focus in subsequent games for Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

He, however, credits head coach Prosper Narteh and CEO, Nana Yaw Amposah for helping recover his good form for the Porcupine Warriors.

“When [Cameroon] first called me up, I was happy and proud because it was a sign that they’d seen my hard work but when my name was omitted [from the final list], I lost focus,” he told Opemsuo Radio in an interview.

“But the coach and the CEO helped me a lot by consoling me and telling me to believe in myself.”

Etouga’s form has seen him score 22 goals in the Ghana Premier League this season, leaving him top of the goal king chart with two games to go.

He admits has set his sights on the golden boot and is confident of sealing the award with a few more goals before the end of the season.

“I want to win the goal king [award], I am very determined for it and hopefully on Sunday I will score,” he added.
