Mohamed Zidan explains why Mohamed Salah might not win 2022 Ballon D’or

Egyptian football legend, Mohamed Zidan believes missing out on major titles and objectives with Liverpool and Egypt will cost Mohamed Salah the Ballon D’or.

Salah has enjoyed an excellent individual season after being crowned the Premier League’s top scorer while picking up the top assist award as well.

But his performances could only push the Reds to a second place finish in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s men also lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid, a game in which Mohamed Salah was largely ineffective.

Speaking to Citi Sports in a radio interview, Zidan, who played 44 times for Egypt, believes losing out on the foregoing two competitions will most likely cost Salah the Ballon D’or.

“We will love to see him win the Ballon D’or. But sometimes the Ballon D’or is not about how many goals you scored.

“It depends on so many other things. This year, he was not lucky in the Champions League final. We would have loved to see him win it.

“In the league, he was not lucky as well. He was so close on the last day.

“Then with Egypt, he lost the Africa Cup of Nations final and then lost to Senegal in the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs. All these things can work against him,” he said.

The 2022 Ballon D’or will take place on 17th October, 2022, two months earlier than the usual date.
