Kirin Cup: Black Stars pocket $50,000 for finishing third

Ghana’s Black Stars have received $50, 000 for finishing third in the just ended 2022 Kirin Cup in Japan.

Ghana overcame a bad start in the competition to beat Chile to secure 3rd spot in the 4-nation tournament which begun last Friday.

Goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen was the hero for Ghana saving two penalties as the Black Stars beat Chile 3-1 in the shootout after the game ended goalless in regular time.

After Chile scored their opening kick and Jordan Ayew levelled, Manaf Nurudeen saved back-to-back kicks from the Chileans before Gary Medel blasted his kick over the bar to give Ghana the victory.

The win serves as redemption for the Black Stars after they were thrashed in their opening game 4-1 by Japan last Friday.

The four-nation tournament dubbed Kirin Cup was organized by Japan as a preparatory competition for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which Ghana, Tunisia and the Samurai Blues of Japan having all qualified to participate in the tourney slated for November to December 2022.

Tunisia beat Japan 3-0 to win the competition and were rewarded $250,000 in prize money.
