DOL: Port City to participate in three-team playoff to decide Inter Allies’ replacement

Port City FC will contest in the three-team playoff organised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to find a replacement for Inter Allies in the Division One League.

Port City’s loss on penalties to Abuakwa Susubiribi SC in the Eastern Regional Division Two Middle League playoff on Tuesday means the latter have secured a spot in Division One for the 2022/23 league season.

Despite the loss, Port City still have another opportunity to qualify for the DOL due to Inter Allies demotion to Division Two.

Allies were demoted to the Division Two League after they were found guilty, along with Ashgold, of match manipulation on the final day of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The GFA announced that the teams that finished as runners-up in the three regional blocs in Zone 3, in the Division Two League, will play each other, with the winner replacing Inter Allies in the DOL.

Greater Accra runners-up, Na God FC; Volta Region runners-up, Agbogba FC; and the Eastern Region runners-up Port City FC will now participate in the playoff tournament.

“The three teams will engage in an all-play-all league format after which the winner makes it to the Division One League,” the GFA’s earlier statement said.

“The fixtures will be as follows: Team A vs Team B, Team B vs Team C and Team C vs Team A.”

The GFA added that a draw will be held to determine which of the teams fill each of the three spots in the playoffs.
