Ghanaian powerlifter, weightlifter and strongman, Evans Aryee has said he is ready and more than willing to represent Ghana at the Olympics level in the powerlifting, weightlifting and strongman disciplines when the opportunity presents itself.

Evans Aryee made this statement during a Twitter space interview dubbed “Sports Corner” which was geared toward appreciating his journey as a Ghanaian powerlifter in the diaspora and how he was lifting high the flag of Ghana.

When he was asked about his future ambitions and how he intends to give back to Ghanaian society he responded by saying he is willing to represent Ghana at the Olympics level in the powerlifting and strongman disciplines.

” Let me say this growing in Ghana when I was in Adisadel College around 2014, I used to throw shot-put and discus for my school, so I have always had the Ghanaian dream at heart. When I came to Belgium, I didn’t throw my Ghanaian roots away, I am ever ready to give back to the Ghanaian society that help shape my career in numerous ways, above all I am looking forward to a day where I will have the chance to represent Ghana at the Olympic level, we have more to do and with all hands on deck we can lift the image of this sport,” he said.

Even though strongman and powerlifting have not been added to the Olympic Games yet, he is hopeful that as soon as it is done he will take the opportunity to raise high the flag of Ghana. Evans Aryee also appealed to Ghanaians to begin to accept the strongman and powerlifting sports as it has come to stay.

“ Let’s face it the powerlifting and strongman sports though new to the Ghanaian terrain has come to stay, we must embrace it just like every other sport, just like we do for football, athletics and boxing, powerlifting has a very great potential in Ghana, we must embrace and invest in the sport.”

Evans Aryee holds a Belgian deadlift record of 338kg and has qualified to participate in the 2022 Belgium’s strongest.
