Amponsah secures spot in Great North Run in September

Ghanaian Long Distance Runner William Amponsah has secured an elite spot in this year’s Great North Run due to be held on September 11.

The 22 year old athlete recently competed at the just ended Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in the Men’s 5000 Meters Final and finished 13th with a Personal Best time of 13:51.63 seconds.

In the aftermath of the Commonwealth Games, Amponsah is billed to compete in the Great North Run after securing a spot in the famous marathon largely thanks to a partnership between Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) and Not -for -Profit Organization Transforming Teaching, Education and Learning (T-TEL).

Amponsah heads into the competition after successfully defending his National Cross Country Race title prior to the Birmingham Games; this year’s race was held at the Akyem Oda Stadium in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

The 2022 Great North Run takes place in Newcastle and over 60,000 runners are expected to compete in the race; the Great North Run is the world’s largest half marathon.
