Another Clean Sheet: Richard Ofori starts season strongly in contract year

Ofori

Ghana Black Stars Goalkeeper Richard Ofori has started the 2022-2023 DSTV Premier League Season on a very good note in the wake of Orlando Pirates’s ascent to the summit of the league standings.

Ofori manned the post in Pirates 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants and the result put Pirates ahead of close rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Pirates have amassed 11 points winning three games, drawing two games and losing 0-1 to Chippa United thus far in the season. Amazulu and Sundowns have 10 points apiece after playing five games.

In the win over Gallants, Ofori kept a clean sheet for the fourth time in six appearances while conceding just two goals in the process.

Ofori battled injuries and featured in 10 games while conceding 10 goals and keeping four clean sheets in the 2021-2022 season but has turned his form around.

The timing of Ofori’s uptick in form is crucial considering he is in the final year of a three year deal he signed with Pirates after securing a move from fellow DSTV League side Maritzburg United.

Beyond club issues, Ofori’s improved form gives him a strong chance to wrestle the starting goalkeeping spot in the Black Stars from Jojo Wollacott for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
