$140 million going towards infrastructure for African Games – Dr. Ofosu-Asare

The 2023 African Games Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare has pegged funding needed to construct facilities to host the Games at $140 Million.

He said this in an address providing updates on the African multi sport competition Ghana is set to host in Accra in August next year.

According to the LOC Chairman, funding the Games is anything but easy and host nations must be prepared to put in a lot of money in an interview with JoySports.

“We are looking forward to getting the needed funding to get the job going to get the job done but funding doesn’t come from us it comes from Government…we are to have $140 million [from Ghana Government] going towards infrastructure” he stated.

He went on to add, “That’s for infrastructure. We haven’t even looked at operational cost, procurement and what have you so a lot of money is involved if you are hosting the Games”.

53 nations are expected to compete in the 2023 African Games in Ghana and is scheduled to be the 13th edition held in the history of the competition.
