In the absence of a Pandemic, the African Games will happen – Sports Minister

Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif is adamant Ghana will host the 2023 African Games in his latest update on the upcoming Games.

Ghana’s capital Accra, will host the multi sport competition in August next year with 53 nations and over 1500 Athletes expected to compete in various sports disciplines.

Delivering the update, he stated to JoySports, “I have reassured Ghanaians…as long as (Ghana) Government is concerned, if there is no any force majeure, any major thing like pandemic, the Games will come on because we are ready and we are working to ensure the Games come on and Government is committed to it.”

Facilities at the University of Ghana including a rugby pitch are being renovated and an aquatic center under construction form part of infrastructure billed to host next year’s African Games. The aquatic center will have a 10 lane swimming pool according to the Sports Minister. (Click highlighted text to watch interview)

An indoor arena under construction at Borteyman will host 3×3 basketball, handball, volley ball, badminton and para sports events.

Next year’s African Games is the 13th edition.
