Money from Development Fund will aid former fighters, boxing development – GBA Prez

Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President, Abraham Kotei Neequaye has pointed out areas where the contentious issue of fees collected to the Boxing Development Fund will serve.

He indicated the Fund goes directly to developing boxing across 16 regions in Ghana and helping out former boxers who have fallen on hard times.

He said this in an interview with BoxingGhana in his attempt to address the situation that has created a rift with the likes of International Lightweight contender, Richard Commey.

“As I speak to you, the GBA has helped three old boxers who are very sick and are bed-ridden…the Authority, out of these funds that we’ve gotten, donated some money to them. There are additional people who have proposals on my desk and have asked for help. Where do we get the money to help these old boxers?”

“The development fee goes to boxing development in Ghana. The Authority has 16 regions under it, not only Greater Accra, and we are looking forward to how we can get to these various regions. It will take money for us to go the regions and develop the sport,” he stated.

Commey fought to a split draw decision against Jose Pedraza but his refusal to pay contributions to the fund led the GBA to disown him.
