Kwabena Owusu eyes Black Stars spot after second Europa League goal

Striker Kwabena Owusu has thrown his hat into the ring of players who could replace injured striker Benjamin Tetteh in the Black Stars upcoming friendly games.

Owusu bagged his second goal in the Europa League this season as his Azerbaijan side Qarabag FK beat French side Nantes 3-0 in Round 2 of the 2022-2023 season.

The 25-year-old Owusu scored the game’s first goal in the 60th minute after getting set up by midfielder Philip Ozobic; former SC Accra player Owusu scored in Qarabag’s 1-2 loss to Freiburg in the opening round.

The 6-foot 2-inch player was substituted in the 88th minute for Leandro Livramento Andrade with Qarabag leading 3-0. The team ranks second in Group G with three points behind German side Freiburg’s six-point tally.

Hull City striker Tetteh injured his knee and is set to be out for two months effectively ruling him out for friendly games against Brazil and Nicaragua later this month.

Owusu has an assist this season in the Europa League and has a goal and an assist to his name in five league game appearances.
